Are you a budding engineer or tech enthusiast eager to explore the world of innovation? Whether you dream of designing cutting-edge machines, programming intelligent systems, or building the future, our Explore Engineering Summer School in Oxford is the perfect place to start.
Experience hands-on workshops, exciting challenges, and a glimpse into life as a future engineer! Check out what a typical day looks like for a 13-15-year-old student on campus at St Peter’s College…
Rise and Shine – 8:00 AM![]()
You wake up in the heart of Oxford, ready for another action-packed day. Breakfast is served in the historic college dining hall, where you and your friends discuss yesterday’s evening activities and anticipate today’s workshops.
With a full day ahead, you head to class, eager to start learning.
Morning Lessons – 9:00 AM
The day kicks off with a hands-on Introduction to Electrical Engineering workshop. You explore fundamental circuit concepts, learning how to design and troubleshoot electrical systems. Your tutor walks you through real-world applications, and soon, you’re building and testing your own circuit!
Break – 10:00 AM
A quick break gives you time to stretch your legs, grab a snack, wander around the college and get ready for the next challenge.
Engineering & Problem-Solving – 11:00 AM
Next, you dive into Power Systems & Renewable Energy, where you analyse how engineers create sustainable solutions to global energy challenges. Using case studies, you explore how different countries develop efficient power networks and brainstorm your own ideas for a greener future.
By the end of the session, you’re thinking like a real-world engineer—problem-solving, innovating, and preparing for your next big project.
Lunch Break – 1:00 PM
It’s time to relax and refuel! You and your classmates walk into town for a quick bite, choosing from local cafés and bakeries. Sitting by the river, you discuss today’s lessons, upcoming workshops, and weekend excursions.
Afternoon Workshop – 2:00 PM
Back in class, it’s time for the Engineering Practical Workshop. Working in teams, you’re learning how to code and build a robotic model. You’ll combine your multidisciplinary STEM skills to master your own robotic model. With guidance from your tutor, you refine your designs and prepare to present your prototype.
This hands-on experience not only boosts your technical skills but also encourages teamwork and critical thinking—essential traits for any future engineer.
Time to Unwind – 4:00 PM
After a full-on day of learning, it’s time to unwind. Some students join a friendly game of football in University Parks, while others opt for Punting on the River Thames, testing their steering skills as they navigate the waterways. It’s the perfect way to experience student life in Oxford.
Dinner on Campus – 6:00 PM
Dinner is served back at St Peter’s College, where you and your friends reflect on the day’s activities. You chat about the best (and trickiest!) parts of the workshops, sharing ideas and looking forward to tomorrow’s robotics session.
Evening Activities – 8:00 PM![]()
The fun isn’t over yet! Tonight, you and your friends head to the river for a punting adventure, taking turns steering through Oxford’s scenic waterways (with plenty of laughter along the way). Others join a table tennis tournament, battling it out for the title of champion, while some opt for a relaxed evening with a movie night at the Campus Cinema.
For those feeling competitive, the Oxford Royale Big Quiz is in full swing, with teams testing their knowledge on everything from pop culture to world history. As the night winds down, students gather in the common room for card games and late-night chats, making memories before another exciting day ahead.
Lights Out – 10:00 PM
Curfew arrives, and it’s time to rest. As you settle into bed, you reflect on everything you’ve learned and the new friends you’ve made. Tomorrow promises more exciting workshops, hands-on challenges, and opportunities to push the boundaries of engineering!
